Web and Mobile UI Update

creating a new path

As part of a hiring assignment for an interactive designer position, I was asked to find alternative solutions to those that were in place.

  • A new way to show that an agent was available and ready to engage.

  • A new path through the \”What Floor Plan is Right for You\”.

  • Collection of the users information: name and e-mail address.

All content and colors were taken from the current site. I decided the best solution would involve a full site redesign as I was told to approach it with an \”open box\” mindset, not thinking about tech and cost. I unfortunately did not get the position, but it served as continued development of my approach to problem solving and UI design.

mobile-up

I designed the new system with a mobile-up approach as the site had issues with visual elements covering other elements; this made them inaccessible on mobile without unnecessary effort. I focused on a modular system for the general content of the site and presented the user with a clearer path to the floor plan selection tool.

Connecting

I wanted the connecting experience to not only be an interactive experience for the user but also visually entertaining while they connect to the agent. I wanted to walk the line between subtlety and grabbing the users\’ attention.

floor plan selection

The original floor plan selection module guided the user through a series of 7 questions that lead up to asking for the user\’s information in order to see their results. The questions were as follows:

  • How many bedrooms?
  • How many bathrooms?
  • Floor preference?
  • Budget?
  • Move-in Date?
  • View preference?
  • Pets?

I decided a few changes would ultimately make the experience more enjoyable for the user. Specifically for the interaction, I wanted to streamline the process. I decided only 3 questions were important prior to to speaking with the agent: Bedrooms, Bathrooms and dates. The more specific information would then be saved for the conversation with the agent.

User Info

Finally, after the user answers the 3 questions from the floor plan module, they are given a selection of units optimized for their selections. Plus, rather than simply asking the user for their information after answering the questions, there is a 3D mockup to give them an idea of what they could be living in. Once the user selects their preferred unit, the mockup goes from monotone to full color and asks the user for their information to learn more.
